Expatriation

If you are a US citizen or a long-term resident and you are thinking of giving up your citizenship / or lawful permanent residency then you need to make sure that you properly understand the tax issues that arise.  For most people who expatriate this is just a case of making sure that you have filed the correct paperwork.  But for some people -  so called "covered expatriates" - there could be an exit tax, ongoing filing requirements and tax problems with either making gifts to or leaving an inheritance to US citizens or residents.  You can find out more here:
